Cayman Art - Humble Beginnings

UPDATE!!

Art Prize Draw For Facebook Fans WinnerDonny Connor, Cayman Islands

We did the random drawing on November 19 and the first name up on our digital “fruit machine” was Donny Connor who has been notified and  whose print will be delivered as soon as possible.  Thanks to all our fans and look out for more draws in the new year. We still have not had an international winner yet, but wherever you are in the world you can win prizes as an Arteccentrix Facebook fan – all it takes is the luck of the draw!!

We have decided that all our Facebook fan page members deserve something for their support and will conduct a random drawing in mid November where the prize will be a 12×9 paper giclee print, matted and ready for framing, just like those we sell on the site. The print will be “Humble Beginnings” by Nickola McCoy.

All you need to do to be eligible for a chance to win is to become an ArtecentrixGallery fan on Facebook. (See the link in the right hand menu of this page). If you are not a member already, just go and sign up and you will be automatically entered to win.

While on the subject of prizes, we will also be making a draw from our database of past customers to win an original Painting by Nickola so if you have bought a print from us in the past year you will be entered into that draw too. The painting that will be given away is still not decided but we will let everyone know the final decision soon. The draw will again take place around mid November so watch out for an email from us if you are the lucky winner.

Artist John Broad Prints

johnbroad2Artist John Broad was born in Essex, England where he attended the Southend School of Art before going on to study at Edinburgh College of Art, under William Gillies. From there he graduated with a Degree in Painting and Drawing and in 1989 he moved to the Cayman islands where he took up an Art teaching post at the Cayman Islands High School.

John has had many successful solo art shows in the Cayman Islands, one of which was “Pure Art” in 1991 at the Kennedy Gallery. In 1996 he exhibited at the National Gallery and followed up that success with another at the same venue in 1998. In 2005 his solo show “Renaissance”, was hosted at the Westin in November.

Aside from his solo exhibitions he has also participated in a number of group shows including the National Gallery’s “Watermarks” and “Emergence” exhibitions.

In 2003 he was commissioned by The National Gallery to paint “The Wall Of History”, a work on 500 glazed tiles in celebration of the history of the Cayman islands for the Quincentennial Year. John was presented to Prince Andrew at the Court House opening of the Wall in May of that year.

John was awarded the Cayman Islands National Cultural Foundation prize for Artistic Achievement in 2004.

His most recent specialization has been “speed painting” where he paints a scene on site. In 2004 he created a painting of a Dinner at the Westin celebrating their new Spanish style cuisine. The following year John’s speed painting of a hedge funds dinner for abused children at the Grand Old House raised CI$8,000 at auction. At Art at the Governors 2006 he was commissioned by Walkers, the sponsors of the event, to paint the colorful scene of the famous annual art festival held at the Governor’s House on Grand Cayman.

After an Exhibition at the Ritz Carlton in 2006 he was commissioned to paint a picture of the hotel to be presented to the owner, Michael Ryan.

John’s work is infused with colour, movement and passion for the human spirit, and can be found in collections in Cayman, the USA and Europe.

You can also find John online at the Yessy Art Gallery of John Broad and at Art Below – John Broad

Arteccentrix is now pleased to be working with John and we are now offering a selection of his work as high quality giclee prints on both canvas and paper.

Artist Renate Seffer Prints

renate_sefferRenate Seffer is a self taught professional artist who has lived on Grand Cayman for over 12 years. Born and raised in the South Victorian coastal town of Hastings in Australia she now considers herself very much a Caribbean artist.

Drawing inspiration from her Caribbean surroundings, Renate’s subject matter is the result of  a combination of her keen interest in local culture, her travels,  love for the ocean,  fascination with colour and an intense imagination.  Renate’s work is charged with energy and spontaneity and projects raw emotion that allows the viewer an insight into her creative and expressionist process,  giving her the unique ability to communicate through a universal language of colour and imagery.

Artistic talent is part of Renate’s family history. Her Czech grandfather was an avid painter, her German father a musician and metal smith and her Scottish mother a pianist and established fine artist. It seemed almost inevitable that Renate would be destined to follow in their creative footsteps. Acknowledging this was her mother who understood the importance of nurturing in her an appreciation for the arts from a very early age.

Renate has exhibited widely and has taken part in numerous solo and group shows in Grand Cayman, Canada, the United States, England and Spain and her work can be found in corporate and private collections across the world.

Renate and her husband, Mikael Seffer, a talented artist and designer in his own right, can be found online at RenArtWorks.com and operate a physical gallery in West Bay, Grand Cayman where visitors are always given a warm welcome.

Arteccentrix has been proud to work with Renate on several projects and below we are featuring a selection of  her colourful and uplifting paintings as high quality giclee prints. There will be more coming soon  so please call back frequently for updates. All other enquiries can be sent using our contact form whether they be for prints, originals or commissions.

Artist Nasaria Suckoo-Chollette Prints

Nasaria_photoNasaria Suckoo-Chollette was born in the Cayman Islands in 1968 and is married to fellow artist and Native Sons member Randy Chollette.

As a child she read all the time involving herself deeply and emotionally in stories and spent much of her childhood exploring the bushes of Breezy Castle with her brother Alva.

Nasaria continued her fascination with and love of literature as time passed, writing poetry, short stories and songs. Her college days saw her interest in Painting begin to develop, initially painting images on her friends’  jeans pants and producing the occasional painting on canvas for others. This continued primarily as a means of providing personal rather than store bought gifts that were often out of financial reach.

From there Nasaria honed and developed her skills, joining the acclaimed “Native Sons” and showing her works at local venues.  She took several art classes at New York University in 1999, while studying for Master’s Degree in Educational Theatre.

Returning to Cayman she entered the annual McCoy Prize art competition and showed her works at the Kensington Lott exhibition, “Blue”.  The National Gallery and the National Museum have both invited Nasaria for showings and her latest works can been seen hanging in their galleries several times throughout the year.  She also exhibited at the National Gallery’s Photo exhibition, “Body Talk”.

Nasaria’s early works were primarily acrylic on canvas, but she has expanded into oils and begun experimenting with other new and exciting mediums.  The subject matter of her paintings is varied and includes religious themes, childbirth and womanhood and festive costumed pieces.

In 2004 a much talked about expressionistic piece for the 2004 McCoy Prize competition, entitled “Middle Passage” and a very sought after piece entitled, “The Women Have Become The Truth” which premiered at the National Gallery’s 2005 retrospective exhibition of works by Native Sons, have cemented Nasaria’s work and reputation as an artist. The iguana that she painted for the National Gallery’s “Blue Iguana Project” can be seen in its permanent home at Rum Point.

Nasaria has exhibited in a number of group and individual shows on the island in recent years including her first solo show “Sweet Ladu”  in 2006 and a growing number of collectors have recognized and purchased her work and continue to do so.

When viewing her works, Nasaria says that she, “…hopes that the viewer walks away with a strong reaction to (her) my work, whether it be positive or negative. Art that stirs nothing in a person is not art at all.”

Giclee prints of selected paintings by Nasaria are always available and we will shortly be making a number of prints available to buy online.  All enquiries can be sent using our contact form whether they be for prints, originals or commissions.
